Our mentoring scheme involves pairing medical students that are interested in psychiatry with Consultant and Registrar psychiatrists. We try to match students with mentors who have similar sub-specialty and career (e.g. research, education, management) interests.
Each mentor- mentee relationship will be unique, depending upon the individual needs of the student. As a mentor, you could provide clinical shadowing opportunities, offer the student careers advice, work together on audit/research, signpost the student to opportunities within psychiatry, help them with elective/prize/specialty applications, and/or act as somebody for them to talk to about psychiatry and their personal and professional development.

We encourage all mentors and mentees to maintain monthly email contact and meet face-to-face at least twice per year, although all mentoring relationships will be different and involve different levels of contact.
